Before first use
Wash with warm water and scent-free soap. Rinse and dry.
Installing
Installation takes under a minute. The steps are the same for the Hario Switch and the April Hybrid Brewer.
- Remove the dripper from the base. Lift off the Hario cone or the April flat glass dripper and set it aside.
- Remove the plastic lever. Pull it straight up out of the silicone base. It comes out with light pressure.
- Check the silicone base. The gasket stays where it is and takes the GoodSwitch lever directly. Make sure it is clean and undamaged.
- Insert the GoodSwitch lever. Align the beak with the hole in the silicone base. Insert and twist firmly until it seats, matching where the plastic lever sat. You will feel it grip the gasket.
- Test the fit. Toggle it to confirm smooth operation. If it feels off, it is not fully seated.
Insert it straight. The curves and bevels are shaped for flow.
Put the dripper back on the base and brew.
Cleaning
Rinse under warm water after brewing, with the lever in the open position.
Beyond that, wash it as you would any other coffee equipment. Warm water, scent-free soap, a soft cloth or sponge. Nothing abrasive, in either the solution or the material. No steel wool, no scouring pads, no bleach or degreaser.
For stubborn coffee oils, soak in hot soapy water for five to ten minutes, then rinse and dry. Dry with a cloth if you want to avoid water spots.
Living with it
There is no maintenance schedule. The lever is 316L surgical grade stainless steel with no moving parts.
Leave it in the gasket between brews. Taking it in and out repeatedly puts more stress on the silicone than leaving it alone.
The silicone base is the part that wears, not the lever. Replace the gasket if it loosens.
